It’s The Pickup’s Big Holiday Sale

Share your love of Tulsa with a gift subscription.

Folks, we’ve got a situation on our hands. And that situation is blogs for sale!

For the rest of this month, new subscribers can buy a Red Dirt subscription for just $45. That’s 25% off the usual price of $61. What a steal!

Meanwhile, you can gift a subscription to a friend or family member at the discounted price of $45 all month long. What’s better than a gift you don’t have to wrap or even deliver?

Got some questions about how gift subscriptions work? We’ve got answers in the FAQ below.

What do you get when you subscribe to The Pickup?

  • Full, unencumbered access to all 373 blogs (and counting!) that we’ve posted to this website since we started it in January.
  • Bonus Tulsa content! We send bonus newsletters each week, including the very popular Tulsa Picks newsletter, which is exclusive to paying subscribers.
  • Invitations to subscribers-only events where you can meet and hang with Tulsa’s finest journalists.
  • Commenting privileges on the site! Join such notable commenters as RadarBishop, Dude89, kitten4money and ciabatta_brad.

If I buy a gift subscription, can I pay it by the month or do I have to pay annually?
That’s up to you! We can accommodate either option. Just click the Show [Interval] Options toggle on the gift subscription purchase page to select your preferred payment interval.

Do I have to be a subscriber to The Pickup in order to give a gift subscription?
Nope! But you do need to have a registered account with us. It’s free to register. If you haven’t already registered with us, you can do so in the gift subscription purchase process.

What if it turns out the person I’m purchasing the gift subscription for is already subscribed to The Pickup?
No biggie! The redeemed gift will be added to the end of the subscriber's current subscription term, allowing them to seamlessly continue reading The Pickup further into the future. So essentially, you’re paying it forward.

After the gift period ends, their subscription will automatically renew and they will be charged again, unless they opt to cancel. Gift recipients who fall into this category will be clearly notified of this in the gift redemption flow.

Do I have to notify the gift recipient that I bought them a subscription?
Not necessarily. Gift recipients are automatically notified via email after a gift subscription has been purchased for them. The email contains the product name and interval (monthly or annual) of the gift subscription, along with the email of the gift giver, the gift message (if one has been provided), and instructions on how to redeem the gift.

How do renewals work for gift subscriptions on The Pickup?
When a gift subscription is redeemed, the subscription and subsequent renewal decisions are owned by the redeemer, not the original purchaser. Like any other annual subscription, a gift subscription will come up for renewal one year from the date of redemption. The only ways a renewal can happen are: (a) if the redeemer liked the subscription enough to add their own payment method; or (b) if a second gift subscription to the site in question is purchased, redeemed, and tacked onto their existing term. Sites on the Lede platform also send all annual subscribers a renewal reminder 30 days before their subscription is up to avoid any confusion.
