Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Matt Carney has worked as an editor, reporter and nonprofit manager since earning his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma. He has contributed writing to Outside, This Land, The Tulsa Voice, KOSU, Oklahoma Gazette, Tulsa World and The Oklahoman. He now lives in midtown with his wife, daughter and son.

Alicia Chesser grew up in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She received bachelor’s degrees in English and philosophy from the University of Tulsa, then spent five years in New York City working as an editor and writing arts reviews for The Village Voice. Since returning to Tulsa, she has contributed to Urban Tulsa Weekly, The Tulsa Voice, Tulsa People, and other publications, and she edited Root’s newsletters from 2019 to 2024. She has raised three children in Tulsa, where she also teaches dance and experiments with art.

Raised in Chelsea, Oklahoma, Zack Reeves covers anything that needs covering, including but not limited to food, visual art, music, internet culture, and pickleball. From 2020-2025 he ran the Twitter account for Root Tulsa. Previously he wrote for The Tulsa Voice, Tulsa People, and Oklahoma Today, among others. In his spare time, he plays the drums, practices his Japanese, and reads. Reeves received his bachelor’s in English and philosophy from Oklahoma State University and his master’s in English from The New School.

Google the term "Renaissance man," and you may well find a site dedicated to Vincent LoVoi. With wide-ranging interests and expertise in multiple areas — including law, legislation, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, international commerce, biomedical science, and aerospace — LoVoi is perhaps best described as a Tulsa-focused entrepreneur and investor. Among his many pursuits, LoVoi serves as publisher of This Land Press, which he describes as Oklahoma’s first new media company. LoVoi, a native Tulsan, and lifelong friend Joel Kantor grew up together and are now managing partners of Mimosa Tree Capital Partners, a private firm that invests in ventures seeking early-stage or turnaround financing. LoVoi was the founding board chair of the Oklahoma Policy Institute.
