About Us

Hi. We’re The Pickup, a digital publication from This Land Press. 

We do subscriber-driven community journalism for people curious about Tulsa. 

The Pickup is co-founded by four Tulsans: Matt Carney, Alicia Chesser, Zack Reeves and Vincent LoVoi. You might know Alicia, Matt and Zack from our work creating the newsletters and social media channels at Root, and our bylines at many other publications across the region. Vince is the publisher of The Pickup, chair of This Land Press, and a champion of great journalism.

The Pickup covers arts and culture, food, public affairs, opinions and Tulsa lore with a critical eye, local savvy and an irreverent point of view. We write to spark dialogue, pose provocative questions, push back against apathy and offer ways for readers to become more connected to Tulsa. 

In the tradition of This Land, we offer alternatives to mainstream narratives and on-the-ground perspectives on why this city is the way it is—and what might make it better for more people.
